Valeant's USA region is focused on the neurology and dermatology therapeutic areas as well as the company's most well-known consumer brands. Valeant's headquarters are located in Aliso Viejo, California with additional commercial and R&D facilities in Texas, Northern California and North Carolina. In May 2010, Valeant acquired Aton Pharma, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on ophthalmology and certain orphan drug indications, located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. This acquisition significantly enhances Valeant's neurology and other products franchise in the United States with both an in-line business and a development pipeline consisting primarily of orphan drug compounds. The acquisition of Aton fits into Valeant's long-term strategy to pursue diversified opportunities within the pharmaceutical market and offers another platform for future growth.
Valeant's key neurology products in the U.S. are Diastat® AcuDial™ for at-home emergency treatment of epileptic seizures, Migranal® for migraine headaches, and Tasmar® and Zelapar® for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Additionally, Valeant USA's key dermatology products are Atralin® for the treatment of acne, Efudex® for precancerous actinic keratoses (AKs) and superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC), and Oxsoralen-Ultra® for severe psoriasis and mycosis fungoides.
