Dermatix Gel is a topical silicone gel that is a transparent, physical barrier that dries quickly and helps maintain the
skin's moisture balance, while aiding the treatment of scarred skin surfaces resulting from surgery, burns and trauma
wounds.
Dermatix Gel has been shown to flatten, soften and smooth scars, relieve the itching and discomfort of scars as well as
reduce the discoloration associated with scars.
Dermatix Gel rapidly dries to form a sheet; this silicone gel sheet layer is gas permeable, flexible and waterproof and
forms a bond with the stratum corneum (the outer layer of dead skin cells) forming a protective barrier against
chemical, physical and microbial invasion of the scar site while assisting with hydration. The scar matures through
normal collagen synthesis cycles with an improved physical and cosmetic appearance.
Dermatix Gel is used for the treatment of keloids and hypertrophic scars (such as those resulting from general surgical
procedures, trauma wounds and burns), after the wound has healed and the skin surface is intact.
Dermatix Gel is used to treat scarred skin surfaces and acts as a protective barrier against chemical, physical and
microbial invasion of the scar site while assisting with hydration.
Dermatix Gel is classified as a class I device by the United States Food and Drug Administration. A class I device is a
medical device which is defined as 'any instrument, apparatus, appliance, material or other article used for human
beings for the purpose of diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, alleviation of or compensation for an injury or handicap and
which does not achieve its principal intended action in or on the human body by pharmacological, immunological or
metabolic means.'
Dermatix Gel has no pharmacological function; it is a protective barrier which bonds to the outer layer of dead skin
cells.
Formulation activities to further develop Dermatix are ongoing.
